the art movement

Our art movement consists of 3 art movements.
Post Impressionism, Fauvism, and Magical Realism. With these three combined, it is the birth of Neo Normalism. Through the art style of Post Impression, the vibrancy of Fauvism, and the conceptual idea of Magical Realism, we feel that these truly encapsulates how the message of hope can be viewed as.

HIWAGA
HIWAGA
The first prompt is named Hiwaga - the Filipino word for magical, mysterious or wonderful. With our first prompt, we emphasized hope in the setting of Magical Realism - depicted by our colors from Fauvism and art style from Post Impressionism. Even if we are undergoing a global health crisis, there are glimmers of hope in the corners of our life - like how we put it in Filipino, “Mayroong hiwaga na matatagpuan sa ating reyalidad, dulot ng ating sariling pag-asa.”

Skies of Gold
Jerome Ralph I. Pompa,
2020 (Mixed Media, oil on canvas)
Inspired by our research, my work aims to give a sense of peace of mind. The blue color calms us down but the direction of the strokes means that we should be progressing into something better. The painting is somewhat three dimensional with heavy impasto. The yellow impasto represents yellow flowers and a sign of hope and it stands out to represent importance.

Aspiration
Nathan Andrew B. Quiogue,
2020 (Colored pencil)
Aspiration is the people’s deep longing for a better future.
A life of freedom from sickness and poverty. For now we are aspiring to put our hopeful ideas into reality.

Brighten Up
Travis John T. Abundo, 2020
(Adobe Illustrator)
The story behind my first Artwork is how I initially felt during this start of quarantine and was constantly burned out and tired despite me thinking that I was enjoying what I was doing. The gradient shades of yellow leading to black symbolizes the inspiration and hope of the students, despite being tired of this new system they still find ways to enjoy and become inspired.

Wander
Keith Eurinne R. Tulud
2020 (Watercolor on paper)
Wander and wonder - two words so alike, differing only in one letter. This artwork shows a girl beside two realities, both her left and right. Even at the time of this crisis, she hopes to wander free from this pandemic - and she wonders all the places and things that ‘d love to go to. This becomes her beacon of hope towards the future, her own magic realism. This art is highlighted by the colors of fauvism, created through the strokes of post-impressionism.

Paghilom
Andre' Joseph C. Salamida,
2020 (Adobe Photoshop)
The time will come, wherein everything comes back to where it was supposed to be, a life without COVID-19. The girl looks up at the mysterious sky, because she noticed that the face masks, face shields, and personal equipment are flying. This represents that someday we are free from this pandemic. Also, there are injections that are falling from the sky which symbolizes that there is already a vaccine and all of us can be cured.

Heroes of Tomorrow
Charlize Lianne A. Gallardo,
2020 (Digital Art Procreate)
Heroes of Tomorrow depicts the hope that the kids today are the ones who will guide us into a better country in the future as we rise up into the ashes and become the country we fought to be. The kids of today will be the heroes of tomorrow.

YUGTO
YUGTO
Yugto portrays our concept - our own heroes - as we aim to reflect into our past to learn from them, and apply it for us to move forward. We are the product of their actions and it is our time to apply their lessons to wisely decide our actions for the betterment of the futures. Applying the Evolution of Man by Charles Darwin, our national heroes are imagined at the time of the pandemic - depicting the evolution of time from the beginning to the pandemic end of the health crisis.

Confident Clan
Jerome Ralph I. Pompa,
2020 (Digital art, Adobe Photoshop)
Confident clan is a reference to how our lives as Filipinos were somewhat calm before the pandemic. If we maintain our status of a Confident Clan, we will be able to bring back what was a time where people used to be happy. Lapu-lapu was deemed the first hero of the Philippines because of his achievements and motives. A leader fighting for his clan and doing what is best for everyone and for the betterment of everyone’s future.

Rizal's Dream
Nathan Andrew B. Quiogue,
2020 (Colored pencil)
This is Rizal’s Dream. Since his time he always dreamed of a beautiful world for the Filipinos. If he were alive today, he would have been an active part of the frontliner at the rise of the COVID Cases. He will be everywhere, helping Filipinos go through their crisis. Rizal is a reflection of every Filipino who works hard to achieve his dream.

Pag-laganap
Travis John T. Abundo,
2020 (Adobe Illustrator)
During this time of the pandemic, I imagine that Andres Bonifacio would be someone who would open the eyes of people towards the worldwide spread of the CoronaVirus. He would be the person to encourage people to take the proper precautions towards preventing the pandemic like, wearing masks, social distancing, and proper sanitization.

Alpas
Keith Eurinne R. Tulud,
2020 (Watercolor on paper)
Alpas, in Filipino, means ‘to break free’. Juan Luna is imagined at the time of the quarantine. As an icon in the Philippine artistry, in our time of the pandemic - he would pour all his strength and paint into his canvas, ideas and concepts running his in mind - waiting for us to unravel it and spark action within us. His works aren't only meant to hope or inspire, but to make us move from where we are. Even if within the confines of his home, his art would break through walls and reach people’s hearts. He would be just like us, an artist eager to bring light to the dark that we experience today, with his own masterpieces.

Lunas
Andre' Joseph C. Salamida,
2020 (Adobe Photoshop)
What if Melchora Aquino cured the COVID-19? This artwork is about her wherein she is known for her bravery and aids the people who joined the Katipunan revolution. I envisioned her as the one who made a vaccine for the pandemic. Our art movement aims to bring hope to each and every one of us. This artwork gives hope to our doctors and scientists who are working hard to make a vaccine wherein all of us can be healed.

Freedom
Charlize Lianne A. Gallardo,
2020 (Digital Art Procreate)
As we exit through the dystopian reality of the pandemic, we enter through a world wherein our troubles and fears are finally over and we can safely go back to our own ways, while adapting new ones. Freedom is an artwork that exhibits the transition we have all yet to go through of finally conquering the pandemic. And what better than to let our Frontliners be the ones who are depicted as our subject since they were the true heroes who helped us get through the pandemic, putting themselves first on the frontline.
